Nature Immersion
The Nature Immersion Program
The Nature Immersion program involves the strategic use of wilderness skills, mindfulness and equine-assisted learning to promote healthy patterns of communication and behavior. The curriculum is fundamentally built on the pedagogy of experiential education and place-based learning. Each lesson is designed to stimulate creative problem solving, promote hands on application through cooperative group work, and illicit connections between the Common Core State Standards, the skills and social-emotional learning. The program seeks to redirect negative patterns of communication by isolating habitual behavior and encouraging creative problem solving, conflict resolution and purposeful communicative techniques. The Nature Immersion program is designed to help each individual find successful and positive strategies for navigating adversity and thereby enhancing opportunities for academic, behavioral and emotional growth. The program was piloted with the 8th grade class during the first semester and it has now expanded to include 6th and 7th grade students.
